The mission of Hamilton Victory Gardens (aka Hamilton Sustainable Victory Gardens Inc.) is to increase access to healthy, nutritious and culturally-appropriate fresh produce for individuals/families in need and to promote community engagement and social inclusion as community members work together to improve food security. This mission is being realized through a form of "urban agriculture" by constructing raised garden beds on unused urban land throughout the Greater Hamilton Area. Dedicated volunteers plant and maintain the garden sites and then harvest the fresh produce, which is all donated to local food banks and food programs for distribution to their clientele. In the past six years, 15 garden sites have been constructed throughout the city, and over 175,000 pounds of produce have been harvested and donated.
Hamilton Victory Gardens has an Educational Program which provides hundreds of elementary and secondary school students during the spring and fall, and participants of Day Camps during the summer, with the opportunity to take part in “hands-on” experiences at local Victory Garden sites. The organization also partners with various local agencies to provide social/community inclusion opportunities for members of numerous diverse community groups (e.g. intellectually disabled, refugees/newcomers, international students) and offers "Give Back to your Community" experiences for teams of employees from local corporations and agencies.

THE OPERATIONS MANAGER
Hamilton Victory Gardens is looking for a motivated self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a team and who is looking for a chance to develop his/her leadership and management experience. He or she must have excellent knowledge of urban agriculture (or gardening) and a demonstrated ability to grow a wide variety of vegetables from seed to harvest and maintain soil health using organic methods. She or he requires strong team leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task and handle a variety of challenges within a dynamic and changing organization in order to further the organization’s mission, impact, and effectiveness. Additional requirements for the successful candidate include the ability to commit for one or more years and the flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays as needed during the growing season.
