The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Parks, this role is responsible for overseeing a variety of skilled park operations functions and for coordinating team activities to ensure maximum efficiency, productivity and safety. This position has an emphasis on working with Fleet Services to ensure Parks equipment and Fleet is regularly cleaned and serviced operating safely and effectively. As an Parks Lead Hand, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Direct, schedule and organize work crews to carry out all facets of parks maintenance including sidewalk plowing operations in the absence of the Supervisor
  • Inspect sidewalk plowing operations and ensure staff and equipment are working efficiently to meet Council directed service levels
  • Prepare work schedules, approve overtime work with the consent of the Supervisor and keep work time records
  • Supervise in-house and contracted staff assigned to perform work and activities

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with a post-secondary diploma in a Parks related field. The candidate must have a valid restricted ‘A’ Class driver’s licence with no more than 3 demerit points and daily access to a vehicle. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in municipal parks maintenance, a minimum of 3 years’ experience in municipal sidewalk snow plowing operations, and 3 years of supervisory experience. The candidate must also have experience in the operation and light servicing of vehicles (light trucks, mowers, tractors, sidewalk snow plows) and equipment. Accreditation as a Small Engine Technician is an asset.

The ideal candidate will be able to meet physical demands of the position including lifting up to 50 lbs (25 kg) and work in adverse weather conditions. We are seeking an individual with demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail, superior verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

This position offers a pay rate of $32.30 per hour plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
