Canadian Fruit Tree Nursery Co-operative Ltd. is a nursery specializing in field production of fruit trees and grapevines for a group of 30 orchard and vineyard growers, with production locations near Vineland and Norwich, Ontario.
We are currently looking for an individual to fill the role of assistant grower to help in the production and management of day-to-day nursery operations. The ideal candidate would enjoy the hands on nature of work in producing top quality nursery stock, the opportunity to play an integral role in a community of dedicated and progressive fruit growers, as well as be looking to take on progressive roles of responsibility in a horticultural career.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
-Participate and assist in management of: all nursery operations including: seeding and planting of nursery stock, pruning, propagation and grafting, cultivation, fertilization, irrigation, nursery stock harvest and grading, inventory
-participate in the application of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides under supervision of licensed applicator
-assist with maintenance of nursery stock in cold storage
-assist in shipment and delivery of nursery stock, interaction with growers and customers
-safe operation of tractors, vehicles and other farm equipment
-assist in maintenance and repair of equipment
-assist with other areas of the nursery operation as required
Requirements
-preferred degree or diploma in horticulture and/or equivalent proven industry experience
-comfortability in acting in a supervisory role with ability and desire to take leadership role
-ability to work outdoors and perform physical duties reasonable to a nursery working environment
-familiarity with farm and nursery equipment, including small tools and machinery
-valid G license, with clean abstract
-dependable, punctual and works well with others
-must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
-ability to work extended hours as required including weekends during seasonal peak demands
