Landscape Horticulturalist and Construction Worker

GENUS LOCI ECOLOGICAL LANDSCAPES INC. is a progressive full-service landscape design/build company based in King City, Ontario. We offer a full range of standard landscape construction services (planting, masonry, woodwork, ponds and water features). We are also "Fusion" certified and and we specialize in ecological landscaping, ecological restoration and a range of green technologies, including natural swimming pools and low impact development. We currently have three full-time seasonal positions available for mature, motivated, production- and team-oriented individuals with a strong work ethic and an interest in ecological landscaping.
Lead Horticulturalist/Maintenance Crew Leader
Genus Loci requires a mature and experienced landscape technician with a strong horticultural background to lead its residential landscape maintenance division, to oversee planting projects, and as required, to assist with hardscape installation. The ideal candidate for this position requires:
- a minimum 3 years experience as a horticultural technician
- is skilled in plant identification, plant care, and pruning, with a superior knowledge of native trees, shrubs, and perennials
- lawn care experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have, or are pursuing, college level training programs and CNLA certification. Valid G license, vehicle, and clean driving record are required. Candidates are expected to work 45 + hours per week from from April to December (as long as weather permits), as well as a minimum of 12 Saturdays in the spring and fall. We pay overtime rates for biweekly periods exceeding 90 hours and we pay for travel time in our trucks. Remuneration will range from $19.00 - $23.00/hr, depending on experience and education.

Landscape Construction Workers
We have two employment opportunities for smart, enthusiastic, hardworking individuals looking to develop and grow their landscape construction and horticultural skills in a professional and supportive work environment. We need workers who are mature, reliable and production-oriented, who understands the meaning of "team-oriented", who demonstrate a superior work ethic, and who are committed to a safe workplace. An interest in ecological landscaping is a definite asset.
The successful candidates will work on a wide spectrum of projects ranging from conventional hardscape installations and plantings, to ecological landscape projects involving rain gardens, natural swimming pools, ponds and waterfalls, xeriscapes and other green technologies.
Conditions of the job include:
- 45 -50 hr work weeks
- A minimum of 9 Saturday workdays through the season, on a schedule to be confirmed upon employment
- must supply own personal safety gear equipment
Compensation is competitive and will range from $18 - $22/hr, commensurate with experience, training and performance. We pay overtime rates for biweekly periods exceeding 90 hours and we pay for travel time in our trucks.
Job requirements include:
- minimum one year experience as a landscape labourer
- demonstrated ability to deal with the physical demands and rigours of landscape construction
- driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and experience driving small truck and trailer rigs is a definite asset
- experience operating small construction equipment such as a skid steer, loaders and mini-excavators is a definite asset
Candidates with college level training in the landscape trades will be given preference. Additional field training will be provided as required to meet job requirements.
