The Town of BWG is looking for an energetic, highly motivated and skilled professional to join the Parks and Property Division of the Community Services Department.

 

Reporting to the Supervisor of Parks and Property, this position is responsible for performing maintenance, construction and/or repair work related to parks, open space, watercourse, and facility areas within the Town.  This incumbent will conduct regular inspections and annual maintenance of park furniture/equipment and playgrounds in accordance with the CAN/CSA-Z614 certification standard.  In addition, they will operate various mowers and equipment and complete assigned snow removal/salting operations.  They will be responsible for turf/sports field maintenance, weed spraying, horticulture/plantings programs and maintenance and facility and special events set up/support.  The role will ensure efficient plant operation and building cleanliness, equipment inspection, maintenance and minor repair and/or other parks/property operations. The candidate will handle complaints investigation and resolutions, and provide guidance to parks seasonal and/or student staff, as required.

 

The successful candidate must have a Certified Canadian Playground Safety Institute Inspector certification combined demonstrated experience in parks/building maintenance, and construction, arboriculture, horticulture.  Candidates will have a working knowledge of parks/building related equipment operation and maintenance, turf and sports field layout and maintenance techniques, sub grade automatic irrigation equipment, tree pruning, planting, and removal, horticulture practices, weed spraying, painting, janitorial cleaning, and sound safety practices.  Preference will be given to those with a Grower Pesticide Safety Course and Safe Salt Certification as well as experience in all forms of hardscaping, installation of paving stones, interlock pavers concrete forming work and retaining wall construction. The demonstrated ability to operate and maintain tractors, mowers and attachments, line painters, weed sprayers, and tree pruning equipment and associated hand and power tools/equipment in required.  The successful candidate must be able to operate and maintain a pick-up truck with snowplough sander, and front end loader.  A class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing is required and preference will be given to candidates with a DZ license.  The position requires frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions and a demonstrated ability to exert/lift up to 50 pounds of force.  The successful candidate must have good organizational, interpersonal and work prioritization skills; and be able to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, staff, other departments, contract services, sports organizations, and utilities.  The availability to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends, is required.

 

The position offers an hourly wage rate of $23.16 to $28.55 per hour (International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793).
