Reporting to the Supervisor of Beautification, the Arborist is responsible for all aspects of tree maintenance including inspection and risk assessment, pruning, planting and removing when necessary. The arborist is responsible for communicating with and monitoring the work of contracted services and reporting back to the Supervisor with observations and recommendations. In addition, as part of the larger team, the arborist is assigned work in support of the horticulturalist, cemetery attendant and grounds maintenance attendant. Seasonally, the arborist is responsible for supervising the work of temporary staff.
Duties include:
• All aspects of tree maintenance
• Communicating with and monitoring work of contracted services
• Making recommendations to improve the tree management program and work efficiencies
• Year-round trail inspection and maintenance
• Providing excellent customer service to residents and the public in general
• Frequently supporting other groups in the department with cemetery maintenance, sports field maintenance, park maintenance and horticulture maintenance, winter snow removal (if needed)
• Supporting seasonal events throughout the Town
The successful candidate will possess the following:
• International Society of Arboriculture, Certified Arborist or Ontario Certified Arborist
• International Society of Arboriculture Qualified Tree Risk Assessor
• 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Ministry of Trades Colleges and Universities, Cutter Skidder Operations License (or other recognized chainsaw certification course with mandatory practical component)
• Technical tree falling course
• Electrical Utility Safety Association, Line Safety and Awareness for Line Clearing course
• Electrical Utilities Safety Association, Utility Work Protection Code Overview
• Front-end loader certificate (an asset)
• Class “DZ” license (an asset)
• Landscape exterminator license (asset)
Salary: $53,452 - $71,491 (40 hours per week).
