General Description
The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the company. On a high level, this includes overall management of the Shop, managing the fieldwork, HR, our small and large tool investment and fleet management.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Reporting and communicating to the senior management team
- Updates/ Paperwork - reviews staff paperwork before submission to office
- Identify deficiencies/ efficiencies within company
- Managing and giving daily direction and support to the crew leaders
- Visiting jobs/ properties for quality control
- Talking with owners and property managers, attending meetings
- Ensuring that all employees are following the policies for the company
- The Operations Manager should be proficient in the proper and safe use of the same equipment that the staff uses: line trimmers, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers, chainsaw, pole chainsaw blower, ride mowers, core-aerator, rototiller, fertilizer spreader, and hand tools, etc.
- Manages sub-contractors where necessary
- Inventory Management
- Tool and Equipment repair and maintenance management
- Ordering of plant material and aggregate from various suppliers
- Coordinate pick-up vs delivery with said suppliers
- Assist in quoting
- Ensure all job notes are clear and concise for crews before job begins
- Assist in scheduling of tasks and jobs for the various crews
- Utilize various marketing and branding techniques to boost exposure for the company
- Training new hires and conducting employee reviews on a quarterly basis
- Running training and workshop events for staff during the year
- Tracking employee performance and following up with initial actions when needed
- Maintain equipment in working order and send out those needing servicing
- Report on vehicle statuses and set up maintenance appointments

- Reports
- Oversight of the Daily Updates of all supervisors
- Review of daily work reports/updates
- Quarterly tool inventory, damage report
- Monthly report on staff
- Monthly report on vehicles
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years related experience
- Proven leadership, organizational, scheduling, and time management abilities
- A complete understanding of landscape installations
- Valid G driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract
- First Aid/ CPR Certification
- Demonstrated equipment operation and knowledge
- Ideally, has knowledge of proper application of pesticides and fertilizers, identifying, treating plant disease and insect problems, proper pruning and trimming techniques of trees and shrubs
- Employee management experience (multiple crews)
- Project management (impact of changes, scope, etc.)
- Quality control experience
- Ability to motivate, train, and direct staff and encourage team spirit
- Equipment maintenance and repair experience
- Familiarity with Excel, Word, and Google Drive, Jobbers
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
