Position Type/ Hours:

This is a permanent full-time position working forty (40) hours per week within the Parks, Roads and Rural Operations Branch (Parks) of the Public Works Department.  This position is within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit. This position is located in the community of Fort McMurray, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.

Position Description:

Under general supervision, this position performs routine inspections and reports for municipal operations assets within the areas of parks and roads. Using technical and educational experience, the work involves interacting with field and supervisory staff to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs in the areas of parks and roads. The work also requires technical skills to provide expertise in short and long-term work plans, contract administration, development agreements, and written reports on current work progress and research findings and consequent recommendations.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·Provide technical support and assist with workflow coordination to ensure quality and quantity assurance.

·Complete technical routine inspections on various parks and roads infrastructure.

·Assess operational processes; assist in developing new/revised procedures to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.

·Maintain accurate inventories of specific program responsibility.

·Ensure that tasks are completed within regulations, standards, guidelines, and procedures.

·Provide coordination of all aspects of technical area, including providing guidance and instruction to maintenance technicians and non-permanent staff in the completion of various related municipal operations activities.

·May perform snow clearing and other associated winter operations.

·Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

·Diploma in business, environmental science, arboriculture, landscaping, or equivalent combined with five (5) years’ experience in parks or roads maintenance.

·Proficiency with AutoCAD is an asset.

You will possess the following:

·Valid Class Five (5) Alberta driver’s licence is required.

·Q endorsement to be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire required.

·Valid Class Three (3) Alberta driver’s licence is an asset.

·Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

·Proven planning, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

·Ability to conduct field and technical research, prepare comprehensive reports and studies, and remain current with new and updated technology and industry practices.

·Demonstrable proficiency in the operation of Microsoft Office applications.

·Knowledge and proficiency in occupational health and safety regulations and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

·Ability to work shifts and weekends.

·Knowledge of municipal parks operations is an asset.

·Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the job on an ongoing basis, in all weather conditions.

Pay Level:

PL 9

Salary Range:

$42.12 (Start Rate)                               

$49.48 (Permanent Rate)

*Permanent rate effective after twelve (12) months of employment.
