Ontario’s largest lavender farm, and Canada 150 Garden Experience winner, is hiring a Horticulture Manager to join their growing business. Offering products and events centered around their organic lavender crop, our client Terre Bleu is a go-to destination for people seeking a unique agricultural experience focused on education, sustainability and personal well-being. As the Horticulture Manager, you will develop a sustainable planting strategy for the farm’s organic flower gardens, fields and general landscape.
Reporting to the Business Manager, you will:
- Be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the farm’s plant propagation and growth strategy for their lavender, horticulture and other ornamental plants and crops
- Work closely with the leadership team and landscape architects to develop a creative, on-brand layout for the farm’s lavender crops
- Plan and coordinate the execution of all seeding, plant management, pest removal and harvesting activities for the farm
- Contribute to lavender-based product manufacturing processes and honey production, with the potential to manage the essential oil distillery, apiary and personnel
- Monitor plant health, identify and diagnose growth deficiencies, and create sustainable solutions for all field maintenance and plant production using organic farming methods
- Manage and mentor summer student employees focused on field and farm work
- Lead and monitor on-farm health & safety initiatives, including farm machinery and distillation equipment usage
Your background includes:
- 3+ years’ experience in landscape management/architecture, Grower or Horticulturalist positions
- Post-secondary education in Horticulture, Agriculture, Science, Landscape Design or related field preferred. Willing to consider a combination of relevant experience paired with demonstrated continuous learning activities and education
- Experience operating heavy and small farm equipment strongly preferred
- An enthusiastic attitude towards your work, communication and management style, with an out-of-the-box approach to idea creation and design thinking
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with a strong attention to detail
- A demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities
- A passion for nature, plants and animals, and the desire to learn and collaborate with like-minded peers
This full-time position requires some extended hours and weekends during the peak growing and operating seasons (typically April-October) balanced by more flexible work arrangements during off season months.
