Reports to: Property Care Account Manager

Purpose: The Gardening Crew Leader is responsible for the organization and execution of services for property care clients. This leader is exceptionally skilled in horticulture, has a contagious passion for outdoor spaces and loves connecting with people, displaying strong leadership skills. This leader is highly organized and is talented in designing and maintaining beautiful gardens. The Gardening Crew Leader is responsible for the successful completion of work, as well as ongoing growth and development for a crew of 2-3 people.

  • Production Efficiency – Crew production hours vs weekly target, Est vs Act hours, Job Cost.

  • Organization -4 at 4 app completed daily, Logistics calendar for advanced material ordering and 5S Score
  • Satisfaction – Customer Review Score
  • Safety and Equipment Care – Lost days due to injury, equipment loss/damage.

Detail Overview of Responsibilities:

Leadership, Management & Accountability

  • Leadership:
    • Inspire and motivate employees to see and attain the vision for unique projects.
    • Onboard and mentor employees for growth and training.
    • Demonstrate strong planning and foresight in project execution.
  • Management:
    • Clarify expectations and set directives for employees to get the work done as planned.
    • Participate with recruiting of staff to fill open and upcoming positions.
    • Execute on operational plans to meet job costs as estimated.
  • Accountability:
    • Empower employees to meet job expectations of quality, safety and productivity.
    • Promote clarity and alignment on employee responsibilities, and assess regularly.
    • Build trust, address conflict, and lead by example.

Lead the Production of Gardening Services

  • Supervise, coordinate, and execute on the day to day work activities of a crew of 2-3 people.
  • Delegate job tasks to crew members to assist in the completion of property care tasks.
  • Ensure that the property meets customer and company expectations in terms of aesthetics, beauty and function.
  • Ensure completion of work according to the Hutten best practices and quality manuals.
  • Oversee and complete warranty work according to the Hutten Client Care packages
  • Oversee and complete contract services according to specifications.
    • Regularly communicate with client about ongoing property care requirements and report back to the Account Manager.
  • Oversee and complete work at sites ensuring safety, quality and productivity.
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization on jobsites, and shop/yard areas.
  • Organize and perform preventative maintenance on tools, vehicles and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, cleaning and organizing on a daily basis
  • Keep time records of all crew on smartphone timekeeping app (LMN Time), and submit daily for review.
  • Complete daily 4@4 update to account manager.

Maintain beautiful gardens:

  • Complete Property Care and Gardening services to include:
    • Edging, spring cleanup of gardens, and mulching
    • Ongoing garden management, weeding and plant care
    • Fall cleanup of gardens and turf and winterization
    • Seasonal and specialized pruning and transplanting
    • Fertilizing and pest management
    • Seasonal colour (annuals and container plantings)
    • Irrigation and lighting maintenance services
  • Assist and collaborate with the enhancements team where required with:
    • New plantings and garden expansion.
    • Improvements such as patio repair, cleaning or drainage
    • Other enhancements approved by Hutten & Co.
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including compact equipment, chainsaws, blowers, trimmers, pruners, wheelbarrows, measurement equipment, shovels, rakes, horticultural implements, etc.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Read and interpret landscape designs and specifications to complete work activities.
  • Winter snow removal services may be available as part of this role, for interested parties.

  • Comply with all company policies and regulations and local health and safety regulations.

  • Perform site consultations, technical support, and collaboration with team as required.
  • Complete quality assessments of completed services and property inspections

Required Talents, Skills and Behaviours:

Requirements:

  • Follow direction and execute high level productivity.
  • Perform work safely, quickly and efficiently, demanding excellence in quality of work.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or crouch for long periods of time, and carry out strenuous physical tasks.
  • Desire to embrace and use technology.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

Experience/Education Required:

  • 5 years field experience in horticulture, landscaping, or garden maintenance.
  • Horticulture diploma or certificate an asset.

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, heavy equipment, and materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis
  • Work outdoors in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold
