Cashier- Tree Valley Garden Centre 4431 Stouffville Road 

 

We are hiring for our 2019 season! With the nature of the industry, during parts of the season successful candidates must be willing to work weekdays, some weekends and/or holidays. Work terms do vary depending on the job position and time of year.  We will work with college and university students for start dates to begin after last exams. High school students and retirees are also encouraged to apply with consideration of modified hours  

 

We are looking for experienced cashiers who have excellent customer service skills and can keep up with our fast paced environment while still maintaining attention to detail.

We are a team-orientated company and successful candidates will be willing to work in alternative positions/perform different tasks as requested by upper management.

The ideal candidate displays a positive attitude when interacting with customers and co-workers as well as being a dependable and hardworking member of the team.

 

Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make change

Operate registers, scanners & credit card/debit card terminals

Maintain accurate cash drawer

Handle refunds in a quick, efficient manner

Determine delivery costs accurately by using guide 

Answer the main telephone line and direct the call in a timely fashion 

Unloading and stocking displays 

Merchandising

Plant sales

Keep the greenhouse in a clean and orderly manner ensuring areas are maintaining with AODA standards 

*and other tasks as assigned by upper management 

 

Qualifications and skills

High school graduate or experience as a cashier

Mathematical skills and the ability to handle transactions quickly and accurately

Ability to process refunds and gift cards

Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds, bending,twisting and standing for long periods of times 

Candidates should have strong knowledge or willingness to learn about plants & gardening (horticulture) to inform customers about plant selection and care 

Willingness to learn and help where they can 

Previous experience in a garden centre, retail store or as a cashier is an asset

Positive helpful attitude towards customers  

Willingness and openness to learn and ask for help when you encounter a challenge 

Capable of working long shifts 

Past experience with POS system is an asset 

First aid certificate is an asset
