POSITION: Landscape Labourer

Seasonal three month contract with the possibility of extension, April 2019

The Backyard Urban Farm Company (BUFCO) is an award winning, family-run, organic vegetable landscaping company that designs, installs, plants and maintains edible gardens for residential and commercial clients throughout Toronto. JOB DESCRIPTION

Your primary responsibilities as a BUFCO Labourer include, but are not limited to, working in the field under the direction of the Landscape Lead Hand in the assembly and installation of BUFCO designed raised garden beds, helping to establish in-ground gardens, and working on other softscaping projects. Under the guidance of the Lead Hand, you will maintain and organize the installation truck, assist with tool maintenance and supplies inventory, and keep BUFCO storage and greenhouse facilities tidy, organized, accessible, and in good working order.

• You must have a valid G-class license and clean driving recordin order to apply for this position. If you are selected to proceed to the interview stage, you will be required to secure and bring with you to the interview an up-to-date driver’s abstract.
• You will be required to complete roughly five hours of Health and Safety training prior to the commencement of your contract
• As you will be working with children, those with disabilities, and the elderly, a police check will be required. You must have a clean criminal record with no convictions or pending charges.

SKILLS and ASSETS

• Some experience with landscaping, including laying/removing turf/sod, and grading
• Physically fit, able to repeatedly lift and move loads of up to 50 pounds
• Reliable and punctual
• Love of the outdoors, rain or shine
• Passionate about growing food and the good food movement
• Confidence working with a variety of gardening, landscaping, and woodworking hand tools
• An excellent listener, able to take/follow through on direction as given by the Lead Hand and Company Owners
• Able to work both cooperatively in a team, and independently
• Able to recognize opportunities for taking initiative and pursuing self-directed tasks
• Good knowledge of Toronto, able to get yourself to a variety of locations on your own
• Confident behind the wheel of a variety of vehicles, including small trucks/vans
• Able to maintain neat, tidy, and safe workspaces
• Tech and smart phone savvy
• Photography skills are an asset
• First Aid and Health and Safety training is beneficial
