BGIS at Parc Downsview Park is hiring Seasonal Parks Workers for our Turf Maintenance & Events crew this spring-summer seasons. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who have a passion for working outdoors, an ability to work in a team environment, and a strong interest in developing and maintaining green spaces.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining over 50 acres of turf and event areas: mowing, fertilizing, seeding, topdressing, sodding, watering, and operating irrigation systems
  • Perform maintenance on Play Zone playground
  • Assist in park sanitation, such as litter picking, leaf blowing, etc.
  • Provide staff support for outdoor events and stewardship activities
  • Additional tasks in other areas of park operations arise occasionally (ie. horticulture/landscaping, urban orchard, urban arboriculture & forestry, park infrastructure)

  • Capable of using gas-powered equipment, ex. lawn mower, line-trimmer, leaf blower

                                              

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary full-time student or graduate in programs/accreditations related to turf management, horticulture, or landscaping preferred
  • Ability to work daily from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, including evening and weekend shifts as required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (G1 minimum)
  • Must have a current knowledge and understanding of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Previous experience in turf maintenance, gardening/landscaping, or park labour would be considered assets
