Project Overview

Open Learning and Educational Support (OpenEd) is recruiting course developers who can support the development of several new online courses in the Horticulture Studies program.  We are seeking candidates with subject matter expertise in their respective field(s), ability to write online course content, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching, and online learning.

We are seeking candidates to develop the following new courses:

1. Horticulture Capstone: This course culminates everything students have learned in the diploma program and challenges students to explore emerging issues that will impact the horticultural sector. Students will delve into topics concerning the impacts of climate change and increasing urbanization on the environment. They will discuss the role of the horticultural industry in supporting the renewal and development of resilient and sustainable communities. The coursework will offer students an opportunity to develop a project that meets their goals and furthers the development of their desired skill-set.

 2. Business Principles in Horticulture: This course is designed to introduce key business management principles, develop professionalism, and prepare students to pursue their entrepreneurial or employment goals in the horticultural and landscape design fields. Students will receive a thorough overview of business planning, business management, and how to use financial forecasting and market research to make strategic decisions. Emphasis is placed on developing communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in the sector. By the end of this course students will have assessed their strengths and skills, defined their goals and developed a realistic a plan for how to enhance their business, work performance and career opportunities.

 3. Computer Assisted Drafting: This course is part of the Landscape Design certificate. It allows students to develop their design skills using a CAD program of their choosing. The current version of this course utilizes DynaSCAPE software.

Qualifications

You have:

  • A university degree from an accredited institution with expertise in the subject area related to one or more of the courses listed above.
  • At least three years of industry experience related to one or more of the courses listed above.
  • Experience as a student and/or facilitator in an online learning environment
  • A level of confidence with computer technology and the ability to master a learning management system.
  • Access to the internet, personal computer, basic audio/video equipment and software to participate in the work involved in this position.
  • Teaching experience or a diploma/degree in adult education with skills in curriculum development is a definite asset.

Location

Course development work can be completed remotely if you are available to attend regular meetings during normal business hours (Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm EDT).
