Job Description

The Stone Mason will work with crews and lay/set building materials including concrete, brick, flagstone, walling stone and natural stone.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares surfaces prior to beginning work; Fabricates, alters, repairs and maintains walls
  • Lays blocks following plans, drawings
  • Determines work requirements and sequence of masonry assignments through work orders, plans, or drawings
  • Mixes cement using cement mixing equipment, and/or hand tools;
  • Cuts or breaks bricks and concrete using hammers, power saws, paving breakers, drills, and/or hand tools;
  • Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge;
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis;
  • Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications to complete work activities.
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Maintain and enforce standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and yard areas
  • Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations at the yard and on job sites
  • Communicate with customers in a polite and courteous manner;
  • Responsible for assisting in inventory control measures of materials, equipment & tools
  • Advise and suggest improvements with regards to procedures and tools to help increase production capacity

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 5 years’ masonry experience;

  • Good understanding of interpreting mason drawings, scale, and scope for execution;
  • Good understanding of masonry techniques and grading;
  • Good oral and written communication skills to work with other employees and trades;
  • Excellent customer service skills to deal with clients;
  • Ability to operate masonry equipment including but not limited to concrete mixers, tempers, hand tools, laser levels, measuring equipment, drills, saws, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure a safe work environment, attend toolbox talks;
  • Excellent understanding of masonry materials for hardscape and installation procedures;
  • Knowledge of building codes and city by-laws in the GTA;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license;
