The Supervisor of Forestry and Horticulture, is accountable for effectively providing day-to-day supervision and direction to staff as well as the development and implementation of a workplan for the section. The primary areas of responsibility include all aspects of Urban Forestry (tree pruning, tree planting, customer service response, Urban Forest Management Plan), horticulture (shrub bed maintenance, annual plantings, interior plantscapes), and winter control support (sidewalks, parking lots and trails) as required. In addition to providing direction to staff, this position also administers a variety of contracted services.
The successful incumbent will have a diploma in Urban Forestry, Landscape Design/Construction, Horticulture or a related field plus relevant work and supervisory experience; and will have extensive knowledge in Plant Health Care and Integrated Pest Management and or be an ISA Certified Arborist. As this position has a winter control component, knowledge of the Minimum Maintenance Standards and Hours of Work Legislation is considered an asset. You must hold a valid Ontario G driver's licence in good standing; and the ability to provide a current criminal reference check that is satisfactory to the Town.
This is a non-union position that works 35 hours per week. The Town offers a comprehensive benefit package with paid sick and vacation leave; plus an OMERS pension.
