Located in the beautiful, sunny Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Bylands Nurseries Ltd. is a producer of premium plants offering one of the most diverse mixes of hardy plants available in North America.  Bylands encompasses over 500 acres of land and grows in excess of 4 million plants annually.  Bylands won numerous industry awards for outstanding business and environmental practices.  

Bylands is currently seeking a Head Greenhouse Grower to lead our grwoing Greenhouse facilities.  We hire for attitude first; experience second.  We are looking for a self-starter wtih initiative and passion to run this growing area of the nursery.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for the day-to-day management of the greenhouse facilities with a focus on Perennials and Annuals.  The Head Greenhouse Grower will ensure that all plants are grwon to the high quality standards of Bylands and in the most economical, efficient and environmentally friendly manner possible.

• Plan and manage the varieties/quantities of Annuals/Perennials indicated in the production plan on a schedule that provides a continuous supply available for sale.
• Ensure the excellent health/growth of plants including  proper waterin.g, fertilization, pruning, spacing, spraying, integrated pest management (IPM) and temperature control.
• Plan and organize the departmental shipping process in a fast-paced and demanding season
• Management of goods, materials, supplies and equipment required for prodcution and shipping processes.
• ensurae all buildings, structures and equipment are properly utilized and maintained.

To acheive this, you will be working to ensure the best team possible.  This includes forecasting, scheduling, hiring, training, evaluating and developing employees.  You will also ensure the safety of employees through compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Highly motivated, self-starter, great communicator.
• Diploma/Degree in Science, Horticulture or equivalent experience.
• Supervisory and Nursery/Greenhouse experience.
• Practical expereince in plant cultivation/identification.
• Pesticide Applicator's Certificate.
• Available to work long hours that sometimes include evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Able to work physically in a role that requires extended time standing, walking, bending and reaching in a range of weather conditions.
• Written and spoken English and Spanish an asset.
